Mary W. Ruell Scholarship

The Mary W. Ruell scholarship is named for a dedicated New Hampshire educator. Mary died in 2013 at the age of 96. She developed, edited, and produced our professional newsletter for 25 years. She became the newsletter’s advisor from 2010 until her death. With her experience, she was a repository of information of past dealings between NHREA, the New Hampshire Legislature, and past governors. She testified at numerous hearings, advocating for retirees benefits.

                                                Award Criteria

A.      The applicant must apply by May 1st of his/her junior year (if in a 4-year program) or senior year (if in a 5-year program) in an accredited college or university with a major in English and/or journalism.

B.      The applicant must be a graduate of a New Hampshire High School.

C.      The applicant must demonstrate a need as indicated in a financial statement.

D.     The applicant must provide an OFFICIAL transcript showing academic standing through his/her junior or senior year.

E.      The applicant must write an essay indicating goals in his/her education major.

 

The amount of this award is $1500. The selection of the recipient will be made by the Awards Committee of NHREA.
